What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture has a well-deserved reputation for helping to resolve both chronic and acute pain syndromes.
We know in ADI Rehab when acupuncture could be used as an adjunct to manage pain and orthopedic issues whether they are related to normal wear and tear, sports injuries, or post-operative pain and recovery.
How does acupuncture work?
It is thought that Acupuncture works by locally stimulating blood and low amperage electrical circulation to the injured area to speed healing and reducing swelling and pain. Additionally, it has been found that needle stimulation has a strong effect on the central nervous system which causes the brain to release natural pain reducing opiates and neurotransmitters such as Serotonin and Dopamine that calm pain receptor sites and enhance mood. It is the release of these biochemicals that allow acupuncture to be an effective part of managing conditions other than pain such as sinus or bladder infections, sleep issues, fertility problems, and a wide range of digestive issues, etc.
